EFO is working with its local partners to develop specific country level programmes and objectives. These programmes will support the goals of the local partner and the needs of the countries and communities involved, ensuring our support has maximum impact. Independent of the country level work, EFO has developed its own core project themes.
Skills Training: University Based Solar Electricity Courses
This project will deliver high calibre Photovoltaic (Solar) Electricity courses to university students across the region, providing specific skills that can result in employment and livelihood opportunities for graduates. Coursework is based on a combination of class-based theoretical training and field-based practical work. At the end of the course, graduates will have a thorough knowledge of system components and be able to design, install and maintain systems. By conducting the training at Higher Education Institutions, knowledge can be passed to local trainers, ensuring the long term viability of the programme.
Development and Livelihoods: Community Solar Charging Stations

Central charging stations allow energy to be distributed to entire communities without the need for gird or other direct connections. A power centre is created at a communal site such as a school or community centre, providing light and basic power to that site. Additionally, it creates a central point where community members can bring phones, rechargeable lanterns, radios, DVD players, etc. It also provides the opportunity for direct employment for community members for installation, maintenance and general service.
Education: Power Systems for Secondary Schools

Education provides the foundation for people to access future opportunities and is vital to individual and national growth. This project will provide schools with general power and specifically work with partners to provide low power computer labs and internet facilities, offering students an expanded variety of learning opportunities. Not only will these facilities provide access to vital computer skills but will also offer a strong incentive for students to remain in school.
Health: Electricity for Rural Health Clinics

This project will install solar systems in isolated health clinics to provide power for vaccine fridges, lighting and medical equipment, helping to improve health services for the communities. For many communities the local clinic provides the only access to medical care. These facilities are often lacking even basic lighting and providing power can dramatically improve the quality and accessibility of vital treatment.
