Kamakwie Maternal Health Centre receives an average of 70 antenatal patients every week and hosts on average twenty deliveries every month.
In June, 2011 Mohamed of EFO fitted a Phillips Home System in the centre and delivered three Uday lights for use by the midwives and doctors there.
The Uday lights are portable lights with long cables attached to small panels. The panels can be placed outside during the day to recharge and then moved to the most convenient position for use during the evening and night time. The system and lights provide a total of 10 Watts to the two wards in the centre and will significantly impact on the safety of delivering babies and providing critical ante-natal care in times of emergency in the evenings and at night.
