Kamabai Community Charging Station launches!

As of about 7:25pm tonight the Kamabai Community Charging Station officially opened its doors to the public. It took just over a week of very hard work to build the kiosk and install the panels and distribution system and there are still a few small touch-ups to bring it to its final stage but these are mostly cosmetic and will happen over the next few days. Mohamed is still at the site and will stay until Sunday, working with the local staff and giving basic training on solar power and the correct management of the system. It also gives him an extra few days to get out in the community and build up interest and understanding of the lights and lighting systems that are being introduced.

This isn’t the end of our work in Kamabai or with the station as we will be making regular trips over the next two months to monitor its operations and build the necessary checks and balances into the system. The overall intent is to have this serve as a launching pad for the Chiefdom programme with the funds from this being used as community matches for future projects. Planning has already begun on a system for the Secondary School and hopefully this can be achieved in the next few months.

A special thanks goes to all of those who donated to EFO over the last few months, this project would not have happened without those contributions!
